#6: A+ for sex education in the classroom
Right? Wrong! 2 in 5 females and nearly 1 in 3 men said the sex education received in school was ‘terrible’. When asked what three main topics should be taught? Sexual health, consent and contraception came in first. Anatomy came in fourth and for good reason, as only 64% of men and 78% of women felt confident finding the clitoris.
#7: The birds and the bees are all you need!
Where did you learn about sex? 36% of men surveyed said they learned about sex, masturbation, sexual health and pleasure from porn. This is only second to 41% who ‘learned by doing’. 50% of women reported they only felt they knew enough about areas like pleasure, orgasms, oral sex, the clitoris and sex positions AFTER they became sexually active.
#8: Sex is all about climax
Not always! Yet, over a third of people surveyed have felt pressure to orgasm during sex. This can lead to faux big Os – with 60% of women reporting they’ve faked an orgasm during sex. Over half of men defined ‘good sex’ as having to involve an orgasm. But there are so many ways to play! Remember, sex can be about the journey and not just the destination!
#9: Frenu-what?
Don’t miss out on this pleasure center! Only 23% of men said they would feel confident knowing where and what the frenulum is, with 40% having no idea at all. The frenulum is a band of tissue where the foreskin intersects with the head of the underside of the penis. Shaped a bit like a 'V' – stroke, brush and rub for sensation play.
#10: No. Period sex isn’t bloody forbidden
Let’s get to destigmatizing this immediately! 57% of men surveyed reported never partaking in period sex. But why not? It’s normal, natural and sex during menstruation can alleviate cramps and be quite the mood booster. Think free lube and just put a towel down, gents!
