We like to think we know a thing or two about sex at Lovehoney but we also know there’s a lot to learn. You can never know enough about sex and wellbeing which is why we bring in the experts to teach you (and us) all of their best advice and information in all areas.

Allira Potter is a proud Yorta Yorta woman, a trained reiki practitioner, intuitive reader, energy healer, life coach and meditation guide. Allira’s practice is fully immersed around culture, cultural awareness and education, with a focus on debunking the wellness narrative to ensure diverse representation and decolonisation of a white-dominated wellness space.

You're a huge advocate for body positivity and empowerment and you use your voice to inspire others through social media. What (or who) inspired you?

Growing up I never saw representation for me whether it was for the colour of my skin or the size of my body.

I think what inspired me was the people who I’ve surrounded myself with. I started to surround myself with people who loved themselves and honoured who they were which inspired me to embrace the skin I was in.

I think now I love looking at people like April from The Bodzilla, Abbie Chatfield, Lizzo and Olivia Rogers — they’re women who inspire me to love my body. All these women have different body types and they all show up in empowering ways for people to be inspired to love themselves.

What are some of the most common questions you get asked as a body positivity and empowerment influencer?

I always get the question "how are you so confident?", and honestly, I think this comes down to me just having zero fucks to give and knowing how amazing I am.

I realised the more and more I would say this to people and the few who would get uncomfortable about it would be those who are uncomfortable in their own skin and it was never on me but on them.

If you could change one thing about the way people think about sex, what would it be?

Sex should be a consensual thing between two humans and it should be about connection, pleasure and honest empowerment around our bodies.

I love challenging the norm around sex and saying I love a balance of consensual, safe, cheeky one-night stands to intense connection sex with a human who I adore.

If you had to give one piece of universal advice that could improve people's sex lives and/or sexual confidence, what would it be?

Allow your body to relax and do its thing, hold no shame around it...your body is powerful and sexy!
